Two Navajo Fry Bread Recipes

Fry Bread #1 (Tia Talana's)

2 cups flour
1/3 cup dry milk
3 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
2/3 cups lukewarm water

Mix together and fry 6 inch X 6 inch patties of dough in oil (about medium heat)



Fry Bread #2

3 cups flour
3 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
Combine together, then add:
3 T. shortening
Knead with hands until shortening is in pea sized pieces, then add:
1/4 cup warm water.

Knead five minutes, cover and place in a warm place to rise for 30 minutes. Fry 6 inch X 6 inch patties in oil until golden brown (about medium heat)

I tried the first one. Are you sure it's 3 tsp. salt? It ended up being really salty.

Sorry! Error that is now remedied! 3 t. of baking powder, only 1 t. salt! Thanks for catching it!
